BMW Z4 Concept Coming This August

BMW Z4’s successor, is expected to debut this august in concept form at Pebble Beach. Originally rumored to carry the Z5 badge, we now find out that won’t be the case since the Z5 won’t fit with BMW’s numerical naming structure.

All we’ve seen so far are spy shots and short clips of a camouflaged mule being tested in the snow with no official debut date announced until now. From what AutoCar is saying, the Z4 roadster is in the final stages of development and will finally be revealed at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in mid-August.

For those who are curious, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is an annual automotive charitable event held in California and is seen as a very prestigious event. Fitting reputation as the name in French literally translates into "a competition of elegance".

The Z4, developed in cooperation with Toyota, may be powered by a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine or a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with about 200 horsepower on tap. We may even see a hybrid variant as that is something Toyota can supply BMw with in exchange for a German designed platform. Paired with the engines should be a six-speed manual gearbox and we may see an optional automatic transmission as well.

After its reveal, the third-generation Z4 should go on sale late 2018.

We just better see it running and not just sitting on some well maintained grass. Often these events are guilty of that. But give the fact we see a test mule running around on the ring, the odds are in our favor.

But then again there's always goodwood...

I think it's highly likely that the Z4 will just sit around since there are a limited amount of those pre-production mules roaming around and they probably don't want anything happening to the few they have. The same cars needs to be rotated to other shows as well.

Look at all of the Pebble Beach concourse shows and you'll see that they don't drive anywhere except for onto some laneway, then over some grass and onto a stage thing of some sort. That's as far as it'll get and I can imagine the Z4 just sitting on a podium of some sort and just chilling there for everyone to gauck at.

Given how much of the Z4 we've seen in the form of test mules odds are that won't happen, if it does, it shouldn't be too long after the show that we see it running. August isn't too far off from when these are expected to hit dealers.

Plus in the past BMW has let journalists in test mules. Anything is possible.

Oh no of course, letting them in and letting it hit the tracks are definitely going to happen. Just not at the Pebble Beach concourse show. It's not the place for that.
