Even if the price it like a 718, it won't do too much for drawing away potential buyers since both will serve different purposes. it's why someone buys an AMG GT over a 911 for example.

They both serve similar purposes, as a sporty convertible you can drive on curvy roads. The deciding factor will be the specs and how much they are priced for those who are on the fence between them.

This^^ And the specs need to have a significant enough difference. 0.1 - 0.3 second 0-60 times won't really make a deciding factor

Best thing BMW can do is price it around 55k so buyers have plenty of financial leeway for additional options without breaking the bank. Options could easily add another 5k to the final price depending on what you want in your Z5.

They should not price it anywhere near the 718. While BMW is a name associated with luxury, Porche is regarded as a brand that is above BMW. If the Z5 is priced similar to the 718, people may as well go for the more highly regarded brand.

Top Speed estimates the Z5 price to be around $49,000. Of course I would like to see it go for the lower price but I'll be happy with something between $49k and $55k.

That is actually a very valid point to consider

The Z5 needs to be at a competitive price and Top Gear's estimated $49,000 sounds like a good started price. Not too high as to encroach on other higher end models' territory.

BMW didn't have a choice. When it competes with the $48,000 SLK that has always been around generation after generation, there's little else BMW can do.
